Last week Jewventus recorded their first MJSL victory beating Reich 7-4, but nobody could have predicted an 8-2 win today over fellow debutants Broughton Park Rangers at Frederick Rd, especially as a month ago BPR won 2-1. In the other match at Brooklands, Maccabi raced to a seemingly unassailable lead of 5-0 but a spirited fightback by Reich saw a tense end to the match with a final score of 5-4.
It did not start well for Jewventus conceding after 10 minutes, Ollie Rosenberg stabbing home after a goalmouth scramble. BPR let their opponents back in when a header from full back Elliott Bennett found its way past his own keeper for an 18th minute equaliser.
A mix up 7 minutes later allowed Rafi Haffner to tap into an empty net and take the lead. Shalom Treblow’s free kick from the left wing caught the Broughton defence with the ball deceiving everyone and made it 3-1 on 33 minutes. There was still time for Shimi Mozes to hit a low shot to make it 4-1 and an excellent 25 yard strike from Matt Feingold to reply before half time.
The scoring continued in a similar fashion after the break, Shimi Mozes had a deflected shot squeeze in the right corner on 50 minutes to make it 5-2. On the hour Yosef Fletcher drilled home to make it 6 and on 83 minutes, Shimi Mozes again scored with probably the best goal, after a mazy dribble, firing a powerful shot into the roof of the net. The last kick saw Fletcher make it 8 and complete what ended ultimately in a rout. The game was played in a good spirit and both teams were well disciplined.
The 9 goals in the other match at the weekend were divided in the following way; for Maccabi, Sam Gordon (2), Nick Yardley, Moishe Hasid & Will Feldman. For Reich, Jake Delmonte (2), Josh Salomon & Shimmy Neumann.
Next week Reich host Broughton at Fred Rd, Haroldeans remain under local restriction unable to travel out of their area and other teams cannot travel in.
