Broughton Park Rangers worked tirelessly against Haroldeans in the sunshine at Frederick Road to gain a deserved point with a 2-2 draw.
The Merseysiders were in control for most of the game and took the lead on 15 mins when Max Barnett slid the ball home after the keeper had parried his first attempt on goal.
A short back pass allowed BPR back into the game when Jasper Van Veen cooly slotted home equalising at 1-1. Just before the break, an excellent cross from Barnett was nodded home by Marley Rubins from 6 yards giving his team a one goal lead at half time.
The second half started with Haroldeans dominant but with no goals to show for their endeavours. After a rash challenge in midfield which led to a free kick, Harry Landy delivered a perfect ball for Bobby Waxman to clip home on the hour despite offside appeals from defenders. Barring a few counter attacks, BPR defended their penalty area in numbers and thwarted everything Haroldeans had in their locker.
A late red card was shown to Bradley Levy following a second yellow whilst Max Barnett and Eden Harris were cautioned for the visitors. Haroldeans will look back at their missed chances and majority of possession whilst Rangers held firm and dug in, capitalising on the few opportunities presented.
Over at Brooklands, Maccabi just about got over the line with a rare 1-0 score line in the MJSL, although there were a few scary moments late on in the game but managed to preserve the 3pts. Simon Mann scored the winning goal early in the second half and received a yellow card for his troubles. This win sees Maccabi top of the league and with daylight back to their challengers, so when Haroldeans entertain BPR next week in a double header, it will be interesting to see where the land lies...
