After week’s goal drought, the MJSL came up trumps with a 10-4 goal fest at Frederick Rd where Maccabi 3rds effectively won each half 5-2. After Maccabi took an early lead, Jewventus turned it around going 2-1 up but within 15 minutes it was back to Maccabi on 3-2, and 2 late goals in the first half saw a 5-2 half time score.
Similarly in the second period, Jewventus came back to 5-3 then Maccabi stretched their lead to 7-3 and then another goal back meant 7-4. 3 late strikes meant a 10-4 final score line. Goals came from Will Feldman (4), Saul Mattatia (3), Dan Delew (2) and Moishe Hasid. Scorers for Jewventus to be confirmed.
Special mention to late appointment of Jason McAuley as referee, experience of higher levels in the game, showed how good communication and game management can make the match so much better with players and managers full of praise.
Over in Liverpool, Reich were the visitors for Haroldeans’ second league game of the season which ended up with a 5-2 victory for the hosts. The Mancunians kept in the game at 1-2 and 2-3 but ultimately lost by 3 goals.
A game of 3 penalties and several sin bins saw the Merseysiders over the line with goals from Marley Rubens, Max Barnett, Marcus Nezri and 2 Jack Bookey penalties. Ari Steinberg notched a penalty for Reich with a Mike Gastwirth header, the other. Cautions for Max Barnett and Adam Boyars plus Ari Steinberg.
This leaves Maccabi top on 13pts with Haroldeans moving up to 3rd with 2 out of 2 victories. Next week sees Maccabi at home to Jewventus and a big head to head as BPR are at home to Haroldeans.
