After an even first 25 minutes, Reich tended to find more openings and looked more likelier to score rather than Maccabi’s youngsters who played neat football but could not create any clear opportunities. Indeed it was no surprise when Reich went into a 2 goal lead rewarding their more direct approach. Just before the break, Avi Libbert was sin binned by ref Dan Feldman for kicking the ball out of the venue area, but if anything this galvanised the home team without giving any further quarter to Maccabi.
In the second half, an early 3rd goal within minutes of the restart really sealed the match and for the rest of the game, it was always going to be an uphill struggle for the visitors to restrict the goal count. By the final whistle 7 goals had been scored in total with the pick of the bunch being a pile-driver from Marley Rubens who had completed his hatrick, caused many problems for the opposition and in doing so was man of the match.
Other scorers included Bini Silverman, Shloime Halpern, an own goal with the other one being a special mention for Mike Gastwirth who apparently has now scored in his last 20 seasons… (according to Mike - and a well done from the MJSL on such a remarkable feat). At the end of the match, the ref needed to red card Avi Libbert for further misconduct and MCFA will complete the disciplinary process in due course.
Overall an easy victory for a more powerful, stronger and clinical team. Congratulations to Reich who will now play the winners of the other Semi Final taking place next week between Jewventus and Haroldeans. Elsewhere Leeds Maccabi could not field a team in a scheduled league match against Haroldeans, and the points have been awarded with a 0-0 scoreline per FA regulations, the table has been updated accordingly.
